Kirk Franklin Says His Porn Addiction Was Triggered By His Little Sister’s Rape + Comments On Kanye’s “Yeezus” Album Title
Gospel singer Kirk Franklin never claimed to be a saint. In an interview with Sway Calloway, the 43-year-old host of BET,’Sundays Best’ discussed his struggles with porn addiction and being promiscuous. He also gives his thoughts on same-sex marriage and Kanye West,”Yeezus” album title.
Peep the excerpts below.
On same-sex marriage:
How I would always sum it up whether you’re talking about any issue that people want to know–what does God’s word say about it? This is the one that I always want to stand on in the book of romans, it says ‘Where there is non-righteous.’ So that means that we’re all sinners in need of God’s grace…And so if we’re all sinners then that means that everybody’s in the pot together, needing the same love, and the same grace and need the same forgiveness.
On homosexuality in the church:
We’re all looked at [with] the same lens, it says for all have sinned.
On Kanye West naming his newest album “Yeezus”:
I think that the microphone is a very powerful tool and you can use it to build people up or you can use it to kill people…So whatever thoughts I have about Kanye or same-sex marriage or anything else, I’ve chosen to be able to walk out life with people and I don’t think that the microphone should be used to make myself seem wise or so opinionated. I would rather have a walk through life relationship with somebody and they see the love of my life as we walk through life together than for me to spit a couple feelings and opinions and I dip out and it’s over.
On his porn addiction:
When I was a kid there was some abusive stuff that kinda happened in our family when I was a little boy. My little sister- there was some rape and some things that happened in our family and there were some ugly images that we got introduced to as kids around the age of 8. And so from about the age of eight to about the age of twenty nine I struggled with that. Just not only pornography but also being very promiscuous.
On election night in 2008 in California, where marriage equality was on the ballot in the form of Proposition 8. As the night progressed, it became clear that same-sex couples in California would lose their recently won right to marry. The elation that many felt about President Obama’s election was countered by spontaneous protests and visible outrage at this inequity. Almost immediately, it was wrongly reported that the African-American community had voted for Proposition 8 by 70 percent. Many of us watched in horror as latent resentments, outright racism and homophobia bubbled to the top of the national political scene. In comes film maker Yoruba Richen who has been shooting “The New Black,” the film from which this Op-Doc video is adapted, for the past three years. In the course of production, Yourba realized that the issue of gay rights in the black community is in many ways a fight over the African-American family, which has been a contested space since the time of slavery. So marriage is not just about marriage for black people — it’s also about how blacks have become accepted as legitimate participants in American society.
Now this issue is playing out in Maryland. In February, the State Legislature passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage. And just as with Proposition 8 in California, opponents to this bill collected enough signatures to put it on the ballot next week.
But there are some key differences from California’s experience: this will be the first time a gay-marriage referendum is on the ballot in a state with such a high percentage of African-Americans. This will also be the first vote on gay marriage since President Obama and the nation’s pre-eminent civil rights organization, the N.A.A.C.P., came out last spring in support of marriage equality. Both faced a backlash from some African-Americans, especially those in the religious community. But no matter which side you are on, the gay marriage question in the black community has forced a conversation, which is taking place in the pulpits and the pews, the hair salons and barbershops — and ultimately at the ballot box.

Is Chris Brown getting Banished from BET?
Chris Brown blew off this years BET Hip Hop Awards, even though he was in town and hosted several parties, and BET bosses are VERY upset about it...
From Sandra Rose
A confidential source tells Sandrarose.com exclusively that BET execs reached out to Chris Brown’s management to see if the singer would perform during the taped telecast last weekend. One of Brown’s managers, Tina Davis, initially agreed to allow Brown to perform, said the source.
“[Brown] agreed to perform a tribute to Chris Lighty with 50 Cent,” said the source. But at the last minute, Brown’s people decided they didn’t want Brown “performing with any of the artists” on the show.
“A lot of artists didn’t want to perform at the Hip Hop Awards this year, said the source, who begged for anonymity. “Lil Wayne didn’t want to perform, Nicki Minaj didn’t want to perform — but those artists didn’t fly down here just to get paid for after parties.”
“BET is not happy with him,” continued the source, who added that BET execs are considering banning Brown from the network.

White Students Hazed Black Arkansas Teen By Placing Noose Around His Neck, School Board Reacts
In the predominately White town of Wynne, Ark., an incident last week involving a 14-year-old African-American boy, who was reportedly hazed by fellow White junior varsity football players by placing a noose around his neck, has reached a fever pitch. With racial tensions high in the northeastern Arkansas town, the school board was dogged by questions from both the parents of the involved and outside media—resulting in the expulsion of two students from Wynne High School for the rest of the semester.
Local ABC news affiliate KATV-7 reported on the school board meeting last night (October 3) where over 150 people gathered outside. Much of the hearing was closed to the public, and when the board members emerged, Superintendent Carl Easley did not offer many details regarding the case although a decision was made. Just this morning, it was reported by several outlets that two students will be suspended for the rest of the semester—a much lesser sentence than Easley originally sought.
The victim's aunt was displeased with the outcome. “It would have satisfied the family if the two young men were expelled for the year. That would have been the right thing,” said Tresha Light. Although students and parents alike say the kids were most likely horsing around with a towel, it appears that there are several sides to the story after police interviewed over 30 students regarding the incident. The victim's aunt relayed the story on behalf of her nephew that the students built a dummy that was hung in effigy prior to placing a noose around his neck.
With Wynne on the media map, Blacks and Whites are clearly divided on the issue with some thinking the school district may have overreacted. Still, there's a cautious tension in the air as evidenced by a local CBS affiliate KTHV-11 (see below).

The victim's mother, fearing racial retaliation, has asked news outlets to not identify her son in the case.

A spokesperson for FOX TV would only say, “Everyone wants to do a test with the FOX TV stations,” and declined to comment on anything specific.
Jenner had a blast guest hosting on the fourth hour of “Today” as well as “The Talk,” so her own show would be a natural next step. Hopefully NOT!

NYC High School Guidance Counselor Loses Job Over Racy Online Pics
For Manhattan high school guidance counselor Tiffany Webb, a series of photos of the educator clad in bikinis has resulted in the end of her 12-year career with New York's Department of Education (DOE), reports the New York Post. Although the photos were reportedly taken well before Webb began her job with the city in 1999, DOE officials were unforgiving in giving her the boot from Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers. Webb is fighting the termination and is focused on getting her job back with the city.
Webb, who was candid about her modeling before working in the school system, took the photos when she was between the ages of 18-20 – years before she started working for DOE at the age of 25. Now 37, Webb was just days away from achieving tenure in her position when was dismissed for improper conduct last December.
A student showed ex-principal Andrea Lewis a photo of Webb, which prompted the firing. Worried that students would locate Webb's past work online would hinder her responsibilities as a counselor, she was voted out by a committee 2-1. The committee member who voted in favor of Webb stated, “Her professional work as a guidance counselor has been outstanding, and she should not be punished for something that happened years ago.”
After a quick search on the Interwebs, however, it appears that the counselor was also known as Tiffani Webb and was talking about modeling as recently as 2008. Writing for The Black Urban Times, she did admit that she was finished with modeling work and wanted to serve as a role model for young women who aspired to enter the profession. Webb is also the host of YouTube talk show series "Girl Talk NYC."
Webb has since changed her name and is currently working as a teacher in the New Jersey school system. Even with the scandal hanging over her, Webb wants to return to New York.
“I am a dedicated professional and enjoyed being a guidance counselor,” she said to the Post. “I did my job well, and my students and parents thought very highly of me. I would love to return to the DOE and resume the career I have chosen to help and guide students.”
Check out photos of Tiffany Webb (sometimes referred to as Tiffani Webb)
