Singer Janelle Monáe  covers Essence magazine’s May 2013 issue.   In the interview Janelle talks about her upcoming album Electric Lady which is due out this summer, her unique/eccentric style, and why she chooses to cover up her body.

“People don’t ask Jay-Z to take his shirt off when he rhymes,” she says defiantly. Her refusal to let it all hang out is a major part of her attempt to “redefine what it means to be sexy and what it means to be a woman. Showing my skin is not what makes me sexy,” she declares. “I like skirts and dresses just like everyone else, but I had a message I needed to put out there. It was up to me to show people and young girls there was another way.”

Tameka Raymond LAUNCHES "Kile’s World Foundation" In MEMORY Of Kile Glover

Tameka Raymond (shown atop with sons Darren, Ryan & Naviyd Eli) honored the 12th birthday of her son, the late Kile Glover, with the launch of Kile's World Foundation at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Shortly after Kile's passing (following a jet ski accident in 2012), Tameka announced the goals of the foundation tweeting, "Our goal is to increase water safety- thru implementing laws, policies & education. Kiles passing will not be in vain, we will see to this.”

Tameka clutched little Naviyd as he listened to Kile's voice playing on some videos being shown during the event.

Tameka's sons with Usher (Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond) were in attendance to honor the memory of their big brother.

"Big Rich Atlanta" stars Sharlinda Parker and Brie Rowe and Bow Wow's mom Teresa Caldwell came out to support Tameka.

She shared that Kile’s World Foundation will "offer art- based camps with multiple workshops including general instruction in the areas of acting, singing, dance, painting, illustration, music production and digital media." Also, Tameka says Kile’s World Foundation is poised to eventually open a magnet school with an emphasis on music and the arts.

And Tameka had the room decorated with artwork created by Kile before his death. 

Tameka has truly created a wonderful foundation to honor her son.

Flavor Flav’s Fiancee Overdoses

Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav has a new matter to concern himself with.

The revered hypeman’s fiancee was hospitalized yesterday after overdosing on pain killers, says unnamed sources with TMZ.

Liz Trujillo, the fiancee, also stars with the rapper on the news season of “Couples Therapy,” a show about people in committed relationships trying to do better. The source of the news is a higher up from the show, TMZ revealed.

Trujillo, 39, is also the mother of one of Flav’s many kids. She is presently in the hospital, where she was taken by an ambulance.

Flavor Flav has a storied history with Hip-Hop, reality shows and drugs.

Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom Charity Scam?

Could Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian be involved in a charity scam? According to ESPN they are.

ESPN’s ‘Outside The Lines’ did a report on athlete charities, and identified Odom and Kardashian’s charity, “Cathy’s Kids”, as a scam. ESPN says that the ‘cancer’ charity which was founded in 2004 has not given any of the money it has solicited to cancer research.

According to the report, Odom’s charity, as well as several other charities set up by other athletes, had failed to fulfill the expectations that they were set up for.

JUST MARRIED! Mekhi Phifer & Reshelet Barnes GET HITCHED In Bevery Hills!

38-year-old former "ER" actor Mekhi Phifer is now officially a married man...again.  He and Reshelet Barnes had a beautiful white wedding at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills this according to E! Online.

The twosome said their vows in front of 100 friends and family.  And Mekhi's son (either Mekhi Jr. from previous marriage to Melinda Williams or Omikaye from his relationship with fiance Oni Souratha) also walked down the aisle..with a chihuahua on a leash!

Mekhi made his entrance to Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky," while Reshelet kept it traditional and marched in to "Here Comes The Bride," before the couple exchanged vows under an altar made of yellow flowers.

A wedding guest revealed, "When she made her entrance into the courtyard, Mekhi was completely overcome with emotion and you could tell she took his breath away. He had to wipe tears from his eyes for several minutes."

Public Enemy To Be Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Acclaimed director Spike Lee and legendary entertainer/activist Harry Belafonte will have the honor of inducting legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month. 

The induction ceremony takes place at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles next month.

Princess Diana Snuck Into Gay Bar by Freddie Mercury

Queen front man Freddie Mercury once snuck Princess Diana into a gay bar dressed in drag.

PRINCESS Diana dressed as a man and was smuggled into a gay bar by Queen star Freddie Mercury and comic Kenny Everett, it emerged yesterday.

Fun-loving Di was decked out in camp gear like the Village People for the prank.

TV’s busty Cleo Rocos, who went with the People’s Princess, said Di looked like a male model and added: “She loved it.” Indeed, disguised Di was delighted when she was served in the bar without being recognised.

She bought a wine and a beer while wearing a camouflage army jacket, black leather cap and aviator sunglasses.

Pal Rocos — who starred in the Kenny Everett Television Show — said: “When we walked in, we felt she would be discovered at any minute.

“But people just seemed to blank her. She sort of disappeared. She loved it.”

Di, keen to escape her stuffy royal life, was a fan of gay funnyman Everett and had earlier met him and Rocos for lunch in London’s posh Kensington.

They swigged peach and champagne cocktails and swapped gossip before going to Kenny’s penthouse.

He had been due to meet that evening with Queen singer and neighbour Freddie Mercury — but instead he rang him to call him over immediately.

The foursome spent the afternoon downing more champagne in front of TV reruns of US comedy The Golden Girls with the sound turned down.

They improvised the characters’ voices — “but with a much naughtier storyline”.

Giggling Di asked about their plans for the evening.

They said they were going to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in South London.

Rocos, now 50, recalled: “Kenny said, ‘It’s not for you. It’s full of hairy gay men. Sometimes there are fights outside.’ “We pleaded, ‘What would be the headline if you were caught in a gay bar brawl?’

“But Diana was in full mischief mode. Freddie said, ‘Go on, let the girl have some fun’.”

Di put on what Everett had planned to wear and the four caught a cab.

Rocos says in her new book The Power of Positive Drinking: “She did look like a beautiful young man. She was always a very fit girl, so they might have thought, ‘There’s a nice young man with pert buttocks’.”

They got “through the leather throngs and thongs” to the bar before leaving 20 minutes later.

Next day Di had the clothes returned with a note ending: “We must do it again!”

The night out is thought to have taken place in 1988, when her marriage to Prince Charles was already on the rocks.

I Want To Break Free singer Freddie died of Aids-related pneumonia aged 45 in 1991, and Everett from an Aids-related illness aged 50 in 1995.

Diana died aged 36 in a 1997 Paris car crash.

En Vogue Wins Legal Battle For Name....Dawn Lewis & Maxine Jones BANNED From Using It!

Half of En Vogue must GIVE UP & TURN LOOSE their legendary group name.  The messy legal battle between the group members is over....and Dawn & Maxine were left with nothing...

Maxine Jones & Dawn Lewis may have parted ways from half of the group, but they can no longer perform under or use the name En Vogue. Remember all the bank account, lawsuit & split drama with Terry Ellis & Cindy Herron on one side, with Dawn & Maxine on the other? 

Well the legal battle for which half of the group gets to use and keep their original group name is finalized.  And TMZ reports Terry & Cindy have been awarded exclusive rights to it.

After Terry & Cindy sued the other two for $1 mill back in all for using the En Vogue name "illegally," the legal battle began.  The claimed since they had the bank accounts in their names and owned the LLC, the name and company is exclusively theirs. The judge agreed, but no damages were awarded.

Meanwhile, Dawn is set to appear on "R&B Divas: LA"....so hopefully we get her side of the story.

It's Easter At The White House! The Obamas ROLL OUT (With Eggs) For The Kids

The good times & eggs were rolling at the White House.  The Obamas continued Easter Sunday, by welcoming 30,000 visitors on the White House Lawn for the annual Easter Egg Roll contest.

As if we needed any more reasons to love our First Fam.  President Obama & First Lady Michelle put on their casual clothes and took a break from formal White House activities to play with the kids and their families.  Except for lil homie in the suit who was serious about his referee role.  He's known as Kid President (Robbie Novak)--who's become a Youtube star due to his cute yet honest videos about breaking down politics in a kid like (and oddly truthful) fashion.  Quvenzhane Wallis, star of Beasts of the Southern Wild, was also a special guest of the Obamas.

First daughters Sasha & Malia even brought Bo along and read stories to the fams on the South Lawn.  And the Easter Bunny showed up to say wassup to everyone. 

Our fab First Lady rocked a spring-ready blue blazer with a floral & striped shirt and white pants as she told the crowd the theme of this year's event: Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!  Perfect for her Let's Move campaign to lower childhood obesity rates.

The girls set up shop to read a few Holiday appropriate books for the kids.

And First Dad Barack O. did what he loves--got into all the games with the kids:

GOLD! TEAM USA's Men's Basketball Cops Olympic Gold Medal!

The fellas copped the Gold medal once again in London.  It's their second Gold in a row as they join the Women's Basketball team in the 2012 Gold Medal circle.

 

Beating the Gasol brothers & Spain 107-100, Kevin Durant, Carmelo, LeBron, Chris Paul, Kobe and the crew are officially the Olympic champions.  TEAM USA pretty much dominated every team this Olympics, and their closest game yet.

Kobe hinted about his career coming to an end saying this will be his last Olympics...and also said last week that the Lakers will be Laker newcomer Dwight Howard's team in about two years.

Congrats to the fellas!…GO USA!

Dark Knight’ copycat arrested at Ohio movie theater
A man was arrested at the Regal Cinemas at Crocker Park, in Westlake Saturday after he was discovered to be in possession of multiple weapons while sitting in an empty theater waiting for the 10 p.m. showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" to start.

Scott Smith, of North Ridgeville, had a beige satchel that raised suspicion when he entered the theater. After Smith took a seat, an off-duty Westlake police officer who was providing security to the movie theater asked to search the bag.
Police providing security at the Regal Cinemas Crocker Park found a loaded 9mm Glock handgun, multiple loaded magazine and four knives on Scott Smith.

The officer found a loaded 9mm Glock handgun, multiple loaded magazines and three  knives inside, Westlake Police Lt. Ray Arcuri said. An additional knife was found underneath his clothes.

"He sat in the last row, right in the middle," said Arcuri. "If he was going to try to assault anybody, he'd have a full range of victims."
Arcuri added that being in the back row prevented anybody from being able to come up from behind Smith, giving him a "tactical advantage."
News of the arrest stunned moviegoers.

Police prevented a possible “Dark Knight” copycat killer from carrying out an assault at a 10 pm show Saturday night.

"That's really scary," Jennifer Moore told WKYC. "We were just talking about copycats … it definitely puts you on high alert."

Police searched Smith's truck in the parking lot and found a tactical vest, the station reported.
"That was luck," Lillian McNulty told the station, "or divine intervention."
In a statement emailed to the Daily News, Regal spokesman Russ Nunley said the cinema chain takes "safety and security very seriously." He added that Regal prohibits all patrons from carrying firearms or concealed weapons into theaters and that the theater reserves the right to search anyone's backpack, package or bag.

In the wake of the Colorado "Dark Knight" attack, many theaters made decisions to restrict the types of costumes customers were allowed to wear. Nunley wrote that Regal will enforce "stricter controls" over attire and accessories..

Cops searching Smith's home Monday night found an additional arsenal of six to eight pistols, rifles and shotguns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, said Arcuri. Officers also discovered prescription medication in the home that may have prevented  Smith from being able to own firearmsSmith told police he was unemployed after being downsized from the military due to a previous injury, Arcuri said officials could not confirm if Smith ever served.The FBI and the ATF are assisting with the investigation, Arcuri said, but only in state charges have been filed.Officials have charged Smith with one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon, one felony count of having weapons under disability - because of the medication - and four misdemeanor counts of carrying various weapons.Arcuri declined to confirm the medication found in the home.Smith has no prior criminal record and no motive has been established.

WOMP: T-Boz Sells Mansion For Almost Half Of Original Price

T-Boz has reportedly unloaded the Georgia mansion she almost lost to foreclosure. But TMZ says the TLC singer was forced to sell the house for nearly half the price she paid for it. T-Boz, whose real name is Tionne Watkins, bought the five-bedroom, ten-thousand-square-foot home for one-million-122-thousand-700-dollars in 2001, but sold it for only 680-thousand-dollars. Back in 2008, sadly the house was almost put up for auction when Watkins failed to make her mortgage payments on time.

She was able to hang on to it for a while, and eventually filed for bankruptcy last year with the mortgage being her main source of debt. Just so yall know the singer moved to LA to make a new start, and no longer lives in the ATL at all… She is said to be working on new music and the move about her life.

Atlanta Dream’s Dream 4 Youth Foundation Leadership Summit

The Atlanta Dream (WNBA) conducted its first annual iDream Leadership Summit, teens (young women and men) ranging from the ages 12-17 filled Spelman College’s Cosby Auditorium.The Summit speakers included Atlanta Dream players Tiffany Hayes, Laurie Koehn, Armintie Price, and Ketia Swanier.

Reality television personalities Evelyn Braxton “Ms.E”, Towanda Braxton, Evelyn Braxton, Trina Braxton and Toya Wright. during the discussion the panel covered four major topics Leadership, Professionalism, Education and Personal Challenges.

It was a well-planned, transparent, and inspirational summit. The teens were able to participate in a Q&A session with the speakers. Did you know that the in order to play in the WNBA you have to complete college?
After lunch the teens had the chance to participate in breakout sessions that focused on three specific topics under the panel discussion:

1) Finding the Right Balance: School, Activities and more!
2) Fighting the Pressure: How to handle peer pressure and bullying
3) Learning How to Lead: Understanding the role of a Leader

Well Looky Looky, TO is back in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks!

Terrell Owens is coming back to the NFL, hoping the Seattle Seahawks’ search for another veteran wide receiver will get him off the sidelines.

The 38-year-old Owens had a tryout with the Seahawks and later the team announced it had agreed to terms with the former star receiver. He hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2010 season with Cincinnati, when he caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

Foxsports.com first reported the agreement between Owens and the Seahawks. Terms of Owens’ contract weren’t available.
Owens sat out the entire 2011 season following surgery on his left knee and failed to receive any offers. He then had surgery on his left knee and didn’t receive any offers to play last season.
Owens initially made his return this spring playing for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. He had 35 catches for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing eight of 11 games, but was released and lost an ownership stake in the team in May.

Owens, a third-round draft choice by San Francisco in 1996, has started 201 of the 219 regular-season NFL games he has played in his career. He has 1,078 receptions for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns — the second most in league history.

His nine seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving and 13 years with at least 50 catches rank third. His total receptions are sixth on the NFL career list. Owens spent eight seasons with San Francisco, two with Philadelphia, and three with Dallas before a pair of one-year stints with Buffalo and Cincinnati.
Owens is the latest veteran receiver the Seahawks have signed since training camp began. It started when the Seahawks brought in Antonio Bryant, but he was cut late last week. Seattle also signed Braylon Edwards, who played sparingly in 2011 with San Francisco during an injury-filled season. Now it’s Owens getting his chance.

Seattle is seeking both insurance and a complement for Sidney Rice. Last season, Rice played in just nine games as he was sidelined by shoulder injuries and concussions. Rice had surgery on both shoulders in the offseason and is being held out of contact drills during training camp as the Seahawks try to get him to the start of the regular season healthy.
Additionally, the Seahawks cut No. 2 receiver Mike Williams in July, and Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin and Ben Obomanu, the Seahawks’ main options for filling that role, don’t fit head coach Pete Carroll’s desire to have another tall receiver with a big frame.

Owens could be on the practice field Tuesday morning when the Seahawks return from their off day.

NeYo Explains Why He Gave Beyonce Writing Credits for something she didn’t write!

Ne-Yo (real name Shaffer Chimere Smith) stopped by Power 105′s ‘The Breakfast Club’ chatting about why he turned down a popular movie role, giving (or losing) writing credits to stars like Beyonce and what Trey Songz is lacking.

On rumors that he turned down playing Dr. Martin Luther King because he’d be forced to lose and gain weight:
It wasn’t so much about the weight. Thats a role for an actor, actor.

On the release date of his new album:
New album is coming very, very soon. It’s not right, yet.

On if he’s turned more to pop music, leaving his R&B roots:
The first record that I put out was ‘Lazy Love’. I can never abandon R&B. If you listen to my pop music, there’s still some soul in there. The soul in my voice comes from my R&B background.

On if artists have stolen writing credits:
That’s happened before. When I write a song for an artist, I want them to take that song.

On if Beyonce should have received writing credits for “Irreplaceable”:
When you hear me sing it, and hear her sing it, it’s two damn totally different songs. So yeah I gave her writing credits. The suject matter was the same. She added the Beycone twist on it.

On if he’s impressed with R&B right now or inspired:
No. Not at all. I feel like there’s an emotional disconnect in R&B right now. You hear ‘em singing about love, but you don’t believe ‘em. It’s too oversexed right now.

On how he feels about Trey Songz in R&B:
Iv’e talked to Trey before. Trey’s one of them dudes that could be a serious problem if he decided to put that emotion in there. Just the emotional disconnect is there.

Jennifer Lopez Files $20 Million Lawsuit Against Former Driver

Firing back at her former driver who previously sued her for wrongful termination, Jennifer Lopez filed a $20 million counter lawsuit against Hakob Manoukian for alleged extortion.
According to TMZ, the "On The Floor" songstress filed paperwork claiming that Hakob lost his job after he attempted to take over her security team while looking for a higher salary.
After being denied the increase in pay, the 43-year-old performer alleged that Manoukian retaliated by claiming he would take confidential information to the media unless she paid him $2.8 million.

Lopez’s manager Benny Medina, who had several run-ins with Hakob, is also mentioned in the suit. The Latina beauty issuing for damages in excess of $20 million.

Wiz Khalifa Says Amber Rose WILL Have His Baby.....Just NOT NOW!

During an interview on the Q Deezy Show on Philly's 107.9, Wiz Khalifa discussed his boo Amber Rose and said he wants her to be the mother of his kids. But even though she's been looking suspiciously with child lately with a rounder bod and no more dyed hair, he says she's not pregnant...yet. The "Work Hard Play Hard" rapper told Q Deezy:

"I want babies. I definitely want to have kids for sure. Oh, you all think Amber's pregnant? Cause I've been asked that. I'm saying here that is not what people think it is. But, she will have my baby in life, and you guys will know when she's pregnant. But it's not the time now for people to start going crazy."

The leader of the Taylor Gang added that he's loving the (almost) married life and even researches it.
"It's going awesome, man. The married life, I feel like I'm already married." "I read books and s--- like that. Like there's this book called 'Things I Wish I'd Known Before [We] Got Married.' That's a good book 'cause it just tells you a lot about being selfless and really, really communicating. And know when you get upset, just talking about it and letting them know why you're upset."

So no baby yet. Amber's just in love and letting go--a bit--of that bold video vixen look. She's on the wifey tip now. And seems like Wiz really has his head on straight when it comes to his relationship. We're sold on it. We know we know...sue us.

The 14-year-old aspiring actress said she spent three hours creating a tribute to the King of Pop from magazine and newspaper clippings and artwork because she is so proud of him.

”My new wall **took me 3 effing hours**,” she tweeted along with the above pic.

She later added: ”Someone commented on my pic saying ”obsessed much?” yeaa u better believe it … a whole wall of his pics is the LEAST i could do #dedication.”

Nicki Minaj Announces Free Concert for Fans as Promised

Sources from BET are reporting that Nicki Minaj is making good on her promise to perform a free show for her NYC fans after abruptly pulling out of Hot 97 Summer recently. Nicki and all of YMCMB, staged a sudden and dramatic boycott of Summer Jam this year under the direction of Lil Wayne after Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg made dismissive comments about the “Starships” singer and suggested that her music wasn’t “real hip hop.”

Nicki recently announced her free concert recently over twitter saying:

“Hey barbz, I’m happy to announce my #Free #pinkfridaytour show in #NewYork is going down on aug14th. (This is in ADDITION 2 the Today show)

The special concert will take place at the Roseland Ballroom on August 14, the same day Nicki is scheduled to hit the Today Show, and is being sponsored by Pepsi. Celebs Attend Spike Lee’s ‘Red Hook Summer’ Premiere

Recently, all of black Hollywood took their talents to New York, to catch Spike Lee’s anticipated film, ‘Red Hook Summer.’

The film tells the story of Flik Royale, a young boy from Atlanta who spends the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse, in the housing projects of Red Hook. Celebs,Mike Tyson, BET’s Debra Lee, Stephen Hill, Cassidy, Mona Scott Young, Gayle King, Bevy Smith and some other fancy folk were on the carpet.

The cast – Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Heather Alicia Simms, James Ransone was also in attendance. The evening ended with a party at Brooklyn’s Frank’s.

Too Short and Jojo (Jodeci) Land Reality Show: “Couples Therapy”

If you’re a fan of VH1′s ‘Couples Therapy’, chances are you’ll be quite entertained on the upcoming season. Last season, producers featured five couples, one including DMX and his wife Tashera Simmons.
This season, the show will feature R&B singer JoJo (“JoJo” Hailey from Jodeci) and his wife, rapper Too $hort (Todd Anthony Shaw) and his girlfriend Monica Payne (who have been on-and-off-again for 15 years), former “Real Housewives of New York” stars Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen (apparently, they’re on the verge of a nasty split) and few other couples with issues.

Apparently the show has already began taping a few days ago and thanks to reality TV, viewers will soon be able to watch each couple go through intense counseling and deal with all of their problems on the big screen.
